Insane Spicy Korean Ramen Teumsae: I was sweating buckets but finished the bowl!
Hey! It's Hi-JSB.
Bru, do you lot love spicy stuff? Me, honestly… if it doesn't burn I can't even eat. Even kimchi I add extra chilli, tteokbokki always max level… that's my vibe.
So today I'm bringing one of my absolute fave ramens. The Paldo Teumsae Ramen Ppalgyettuk!
1. When I spotted it at the shop
Few days back doing groceries, walking past the ramen aisle… this red packet just jumped out at me!
"Intense and tasty spicy!", "Spicy pride Ppalgyettuk"… straight away I thought ah this is that famous Teumsae one!
Heard the name heaps but never tried. Shin Ramyun, Buldak… ate those till I was gatvol, why not this? Straight in the trolley.
Grabbed the 5-pack. Side is see-through, five inside. 120g each, 600g total. Try one first… if it's lekker the rest follow, if not… shame.
2. Opened the packet and...
At home pulled one out. Same red with fire character, "since 1981"… 1981?! That's way before I was born!
Got curious and checked – proper history. 1981 in Myeongdong Seoul, some oke Kim Bok-hyun started a ramen spot in a tiny alley. The ramen was so spicy it blew up, became "Teumsae" (like gap or niche). "Ppalgyettuk" cos it's red (ppal), add egg (gye), add tteok (tteok). Later Paldo made it instant and now we get it at the shops.
And check the finished pic on the packet… red broth with egg and spring onion… doesn't it make your mouth water? I saw that and was like gotta cook now!
3. First checked how to make it
Read the back.
Boil 500ml water, add noodles, powder soup and veg, cook about 4 min 30 sec.
But below there's a tip… add egg and tteok for proper Ppalgyettuk vibes. Makes sense with the name. Next time for sure.
And says "control sodium by adjusting soup"… me everything in, obviously. Bought it for the heat, why reduce?
4. Nutrition info here
For the diet crew, check this.

One packet 500kcal. In Korea ramen isn't a snack, it's a full meal. Proper portion. Sodium high though, if you finish the broth… salty. But I finished it. Too lekker!
5. Allergies, check here
5.1 Ingredients
Noodles wheat, palm oil, potato starch… Soup chilli powder, dried spring onion, seasoned beef powder, bone broth powder… Secret of the spice is Vietnamese sky chilli, more later.
5.2 Allergens
Contains egg, milk, soy, wheat, pork, beef.
If allergies, check properly.
5.3 For religious or diet restrictions
For mates abroad or who avoid stuff: got pork and beef, not halal. Muslims tricky, Hindus cos of beef no, vegans also no.
5.4 Manufacturer
Made by Paldo, factories in Icheon and Naju. Questions call 1577-8593.
6. Opened the sachet and this is what's inside
Inside: one noodle block and two soup sachets. One powder, one veg.
6.1 Powder soup
Silver one is the main soup… where the heat comes from. Says adjust sodium… me full whack always.
6.2 Veg soup
White one veg. "Pride of spicy!" Spring onion, Chinese cabbage bits…
7. Now proper cooking
Today microwave instead of pot. Alone it's easier, less dishes.
7.1 Everything in first
Noodles in bowl, all powder and veg on top. Soon as I poured soup… already spicy smell! Thought this is gonna be hot.
7.2 Water
Hot water from the dispenser. Cuts microwave time.
Microwave tip
Hot water: about 3 min
Cold water: about 3 min 30 sec
7.3 In the microwave waiting
Water and in. Hot water so 3 minutes. While waiting saw red broth bubbling through the window. Already spicy smell leaking!
7.4 Done!
Took it out… spicy smell hit hard! Nose tingling already. Visual first… broth proper red, not normal red, "this is gonna burn" red. Noodles still curly, veg floating.
Up close… chilli bits floating, oil shining… wanted to eat now! Photos quick quick.
8. First bite, honest review
8.1 What I felt straight
Stirred with chopsticks, lifted a bite… red broth dripping. Mouth watering already. Blew and… dived in.
Eish.
This is proper hot!
But not just hot. How to explain… hot but lekker. Not that fake capsicum burn, proper chilli taste. Saying ouch ouch but chopsticks not stopping.
8.2 The secret: Vietnamese sky chilli
Looked it up later… spice from Vietnamese sky chilli, stronger but cleaner than normal. Burns but clean aftertaste.
Scoville 9,413 SHU. Shin Ramyun 3,400… almost three times. Cheongyang chilli 4,000-12,000. But crazy thing, doesn't feel nasty, natural chilli aroma makes it tasty.
8.3 Broth taste
Not just spice, proper depth. Beef and bone broth powder… rich, umami hits between the heat. Different league to just hot ramen.
Finished almost all broth. Know the sodium but… too nice!
8.4 Noodles how
Paldo classic chewy texture. Soaks broth well, good bite. Microwave thought it'd go soggy… but nah, decent. Pot would be chewier, but alone this is sharp.
8.5 Portion
One packet filled me just right. In Korea ramen proper meal replacement, not snack. This size perfect lunch or dinner. Sorted my lunch with one.
9. After eating
Forehead sweating, nose running, lips tingling… but that spicy food rush hey. Hurts but feels good.
Finished and… one more sip broth. Spicy lovers know this feeling. Say never again but you do.
10. Conclusion
Teumsae Ppalgyettuk… straight into my top ramen list. From now on in the aisle, this one I'm grabbing no question.
If you love proper spice, strong recommend. Not just burn, tasty spicy. That Vietnamese chilli… addictive hey.
But if you can't handle… careful, it's fire. First timers less soup. But if you're like me… everything in, that's the vibe.
Ah and next time with egg and tteok like the packet. Gotta do proper Ppalgyettuk.
Hope this review helps. Next time another lekker one!
